Verbose instructions on doing everything here

What it is: an audio literature trivia game, delivered as a podcast, if you want it that way.

Every other day or so, I'll make an audio recording from a novel. It will be short passage, always something a character says. Your task will be to guess the character, book and author.

Two ways to play: on the web site, and as a podcast. We are experimenting with the process a little.

  1. All on the web site:  Go here, listen to the clip, then submit your guess using this form.
  2. As a podcast:  If you are set up to receive podcasts you can listen via the RSS feed, then submit your answers via the guessing form.

(Here's information on ipodder, a free program that lets you receive podcasts. And this is a 4-minute propoganda movie about podcasting, which also gives step-by-step instructions on getting set up.)

I'll post hints on the discussion forums.

To find out who won and learn the answer, go to the discussion forum or wait for the next audio passage. Or sign up for notifications.

There's no prize, but I will mention who got it right in the next recording. Maybe we'll have a prize sometime when the game grows a bigger audience and is more interesting to a sponsor like an online bookstore or an audiobook publisher.

Sign up. Want to get notified when there's a new passage to identify and when a winner had been announced? Register for the discussion forums to give me your e-mail address. I'll also add addresses of people who have submitted guesses. You can get off the list just by asking.

What kinds of books? I'll begin with novels I like but will welcome suggestions for passages. My taste runs to Brit lit, but doesn't stop there.

Still working on this. The game isn't all worked out -- not by a long shot. So please offer suggestions on the forums or in e-mail. I'd also like to hear ideas about repurposing the archive for an additional, different kind of game offering more instant gratification. I'm thinking along the lines of drag and match thing in Flash.

Where it's due. I'm building a list of people who are helping with the game.

Love,
Amy
